By “fixation” we mean a jointing system, which allows us to put in contact, hold and keep together two objects, in a firm and reliable way. For example: we can hang a painting by using a threaded hook and a plug, previously screwed on the wall. The screw and the plug are the two objects, which we use as a fixation for hanging the painting.
We could mention countless fixations, from the thumbtack we press on to hang a poster to the chains we use for ensuring doors or vehicles, and also the ropes to moor a ship, the bridles to joint cables, the brackets to keep a gas hose and a regulator connected, an octopus luggage elastic for the roof rack on the car, the steel cables to suspend an elevator… All these are just a few examples of the numerous fixation systems we count on daily!
The materials fixations are made of are diverse, depending on the objects they will be jointed to: concrete, metal, wood, plaster, stucco… Knowing the material on which fixations will be used and all the possible options we may have is essential, when choosing a given type of fixation.
Other aspects equally important to Keep in mind are the breaking-point, the loading top (or weight limit) and the security index. For example: if we are to the place a ceiling fixation for a ventilator, we must determine precisely those three factors. Otherwise, a serious consequence could follow.
One last element to watch out is the mobility rank-if any-of the objects to be jointed.
If moving or dragging loads are expected, we must determine precisely the adequate rope system to ease those movements, whether vertical or horizontal.
